The call for papers for the IPMEN 2010 conference is now open.

Please download the call for papers form (you will need Adobe Reader 6 or greater), complete it and return it to Ron Vave as soon as possible. The closing date for submission is May 15, 2010. Please contact Ron Vave via email or via fax (+ 679 323 1534) if you have problems downloading the form or returning it.

The IPMEN 2010 conference theme is “Vakarau ni se siga toka (prepare whilst there is time): Marine education in the new millennium.” We are seeking participation from the full spectrum of formal and informal educators through the submission of papers and posters dealing with the four strands below.

Strand 1: Key Challenges in Ocean Literacy: Assessing gaps in current marine education content, projects, materials and delivery approaches.
Strand 2: Building Healthy Sustainable Coastal Communities: Integrating community-based science & traditional ecological knowledge into formal & non-formal marine education.
Strand 3: Women in Fisheries - Partnerships for Change: Understanding women’s changing roles & exploring ways to use their knowledge & skills in fisheries development & management.
Strand 4: Climate Change Impacts on Pacific Children: Exploring the impacts of climate change & unpredictable weather patterns on the children of the Pacific & their families.

Presentations can be:

• a 20-minute paper presentation (plus 5 minutes for questions) at the conference;
• a one-hour workshop (allow 10 minutes set-up and pack-up time) at the conference;
• a 10-minute poster presentation (during morning or afternoon tea times); or
• a 20-minute virtual presentation (plus 5 minutes for questions) via the web.

Presentation requirements

A computer and data display unit will be available in each room so you will need to list how you will bring (or transmit) your presentation (e.g., notebook computer, CD, DVD, USB memory stick, via the web or other), in what format (Windows or Mac) and what program (e.g., PowerPoint).

Note 1: To submit a paper for IPMEN 2010 you must register for the conference.
Note 2: We may ask you to download your presentation before the conference (details will follow if your submission is accepted).
Note 3: If your paper is accepted, your abstract and bio will be posted on the IPMEN website and your full presentation may be recorded and/or published in the print and/or audiovisual conference proceedings, which will be accessible online.
