| The One Ocean Marine Forum (OOMF) was the first formal international meeting of marine educators that lead to the formation of IPMEN. This meeting was held on the Hawaiian island of Maui in July 2005. OOMF details and a full copy of the proceedings are available at www.mesa.edu.au/inter/oomf01.asp.
IPMEN came into being at the International Pacific Marine Educators Conference (IPMEC) in January 2007. Originally scheduled to be held at the University of the South Pacific in Fiji, IPMEC was shifted to Hawaii (on the island of Oahu) as a result of the coup in Fiji. All IPMEC presentations, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies, are available as web-based streaming video at the College of Exploration website. There will be direct links between the IPMEN’08 conference and the 2008 International Youth Coastal Conference (IYCC). Both conferences will be held at the same venue and the ‘kids teaching kids’ workshops at IYCC on Monday 20 October will be open to IPMEN’08 delegates. Future IPMEN conferences are tentatively planned for Fiji in 2010 and Easter Island (Chile) in 2012. We are also investigating the possibility of IPMEN involvement in the World Ocean Conference in Indonesia in 2009.
