As of July 2008, draft details of keynote speakers on Friday October 17 and Saturday October 18 are:
- Strand 1: Education for ocean literacy keynotes: Craig Strang, Center for Ocean Sciences Education Excellence (California, USA) and Russell Butler, aboriginal elder, Sea Country specialist (Australia).
- Strand 2: Current action on sustainability education in the Pacific keynotes: Greg Manning, Department of Environment, Water, Heritage & the Arts (Australia) and Stephen Hammond, NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration (USA).
- Strand 3: Linking the Pacific keynotes: John Sibert, Pelagic Fisheries Research Program, (Hawaii, USA) and Sereima Savu, SPREP (Samoa).
- Strand 4: Capacity building keynotes: Joeli Veitayaki, University of the South Pacific (Fiji) and Philippe Vallette, World Ocean Network (France, yet to be confirmed).
Formal IPMEN’08 dinner special guest speaker Dr. Charlie Veron, author of A Reef in Time: The Great Barrier Reef from Beginning to End, in celebration of the International Year of the Coral Reef.
Abstracts for concurrent sessions on Friday October 17 and Saturday October 18 will also be posted here as soon as the call for papers have been finalised, and successful applicants have been notified. It is anticipated that this should be in the second half of August, 2008.
